Training
Abstract:
Skills for Health have undertaken a review of a number of the infection control e-learning courses as part of our quality assurance arrangements. These courses are part of the infection prevention programme which is nationally endorsed and has been designed for learners to develop an understanding of healthcare-associated infection (HCAI) and infection prevention. The updated courses were released earlier this week. These included: Infection Prevention & You Infection prevention and control is now a major priority for the NHS and independent healthcare providers. This 30 minute module looks at the importance and impact of HCAI in the health sector. By popular demand the two existing courses – Infection prevention and You (Clinical) and Infection prevention and You (Non Clinical), have now been combined into one for all healthcare staff, with updates to good practice and legislation. The module contains a mix of imagery and interactive elements and is relevant for all roles in the health sector ensuring shared understanding and good practice in this area. Principles of Infection Prevention This course provides an opportunity to review in more depth the use of standard infection prevention and control measures in their own occupational setting. Learners can now choose from one of five roles in the NHS - Primary Care Staff (Clinical), Emergency Care Staff (Clinical), Mental Health Staff (Clinical), Acute Clinical Hospital Staff (Doctors, Nurses), Non-Clinical Staff (Porters, Cleaners, Administrators.) Depending on their choice, learners will be directed to a Clinical or Non-Clinical version of the module containing a role specific introduction, scenario and assessment along with any new content specific to their role. Preventing Healthcare Associated Infections Associated with Vascular Access Devices This course contains two parts that explore the general principles for preventing catheter-related infections when caring for patients with vascular access devices in-situ. Learners benefit from information on how to reduce infection risks associated with using vascular access devices, and understand how these risks arise and how they can be minimised. The revision of these courses have been well supported with the involvement of a number of trusts, healthcare agencies and Infection Prevention leads. The programme is available through the Skills for Health CLU platform and through the National Learning Management System.
